Angry residents on Tuesday blocked Uselu Logos road, in Benin City to protest over the death of a 6-year-old primary school pupil who was washed away by rampaging flood on Monday.
It was gathered that the boy was on his way home from school with his mother when he slipped, fell into an abandoned deep gutter being constructed by the State government around the Textile Mill.
The mother of the deceased, crying bitterly, said she was taking her son home when the incident happened.
"I held him by the hand but he moved back and fell"
She said as she attempted to save her son and the baby baby strapped to her back, she almost fell into the gutter but was rescued by an Hausa man.
Failure of the search party to find the victim's body after several hours left to protest by youths in the area, who alleged the drainage were not properly constructed.
According to reports, the body of the boy is yet to be recovered and not a single govt agency on ground to lead the search for the young boy so the family can give him a good burial.
