Dolly Parton to be honored in Grammy gala

Country legend Dolly Parton will be honored at a charity concert ahead of next year’s Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy, which administers the prize, announced Tuesday.

Parton will be the 2019 focus of Musicares, a charitable wing of the Recording Academy that raises money to help musicians in need through the annual star-studded gala.

Parton is among the most prominent women in country music and one of the Nashville-based industry’s most prolific songwriters. She became such a cultural icon that she is the center of the Dollywood theme park in Tennessee.

Announcing the choice of Parton, the first country artist to be recognized at Musicares, the Recording Academy pointed to her longstanding charitable activities which include working on literacy and assisting Tennessee residents after disasters.

“Dolly Parton has always been and continues to be a courageous trailblazer and indomitable inspiration for creators and artists,” Recording Academy president Neil Portnow said in a statement.

Announcing the schedule for next year’s Grammy Week in Los Angeles, Portnow said that Parton would be honored on February 8 with the Grammys two days later.

The awards, the most prestigious handed out by the music industry, shifted this year to New York to mark the Grammys’ 60th edition.

The last Musicares honored Fleetwood Mac, bringing together the notoriously fractious band for a concert with performances by Lorde, Miley Cyrus and Haim attended by former president Bill Clinton.

Musicares said it distributed more than $6.4 million dollars among some 8,500 members of the music industry in the last fiscal year.

Nigerian state ranked world’s third worst city to live in

Lagos State has been ranked the third worst city for humans to live in the world.

This was disclosed in the latest 2018 Global Liveability Index released by The Economist Intelligence Unit and World Bank.

Lagos ranked 138 out of the 140 cities considered for the ranking.

According to the latest ranking, Lagos only outperformed Dhaka in Bangladesh and Damascus in war-torn Syria.

Out of an overall score of 100, Lagos was rated 38.5 points.

The ranking was based – Social Stability, Healthcare, Education, Culture and Environment and Infrastructure.

Other African cities that featured on the index were Dakar (Senegal), which was ranked 131 out of 140; Algiers (Algeria) – 132; Doula (Cameroun) – 133; Tripoli(Libya) – 134 and Harare (Zimbabwe) – 135;

Vienna, the Austrian capital, was ranked the most liveable city in the world, as Melbourne finally lost the title after a seven-year reign. The Japanese city of Osakawas adjudged the third most liveable city.

Canada performed well as well, with Toronto tying with Tokyo for seventh position, while Calgary and Vancouverin same country emerged fourth and sixth place respectively.

Hamburg and Helsinki, that held tenth and ninth place last year, dropped out of the top 10. But this year’s ninth place spot went to Copenhagen.

The report attributed Austria’s capital’s rise to the top to increased security scores due to a return to relative stability across much of Europe after high-profile terrorist attacks in recent years.

“Every city is assigned a rating of relative comfort for over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

“Each factor in a city is rated as acceptable, tolerable, uncomfortable, undesirable or intolerable. For qualitative indicators, a rating is awarded based on the judgment of in-house analysts and in-city contributors.

“In the Stability category, the following were considered: prevalence of petty crime, the prevalence of violent crime, the threat of terror, threat of military conflict and the threat of civil unrest.

“For Health rating, the following were considered: availability of private healthcare, quality of private healthcare, availability of public healthcare, quality of public healthcare and availability of over-the-counter drugs.

“Humidity/temperature rating, discomfort of climate to travellers, level of corruption, social or religious restrictions, level of censorship, sporting availability, cultural availability, food and drink and consumer goods and services were considered for the culture and rating.

“Availability of private education, quality of private education, public education indicators were used for the education rating,” it said.

Don't Just Pray, Pray The Word'_ Tonto Dikeh Tells Her Fans As She Slays In New Photos

Nollywood actress, Tonto Wigo Charity Dikeh, popularly known as Tonto Dikeh who is not one to shy away from publicity has shared some new photos that will make you fall in love with her.

The star actress took to her Instagram today to share this beautiful photo of her in new classic outstanding outfits as she stuns looks more beautiful on blond to align with the fashion.

Sharing the photos she wrote a lengthy piece, see photos and caption below;

*Good morning beautiful people of God, (ROR) *‭PRAYING THE WORD*

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us (1 John 5:14). God’s Word is His will expressed to us; therefore, praying according to His will is praying the Word. This is a very important
element in prayer that not so many understand and practise: praying by the authority of the Word of God. When we pray, it’s important that it’s on the basis of the revelation and insight given to us by God through His Word. We must act our faith in prayer, on the basis of the Word of God; if God’s Word covers the subject, then we’re audacious in faith to receive answers.

We read in our opening verse that when we pray according to His will—His Word—He hears us. The fifteenth verse says, “And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.” This means that when you pray according to His will (His Word), He hears and answers your prayer.

Some people, while praying, just talk, and don’t care whether or not what they’re saying is in line with the Word of God. Your prayers must be consistent with the Word to be effective. Don’t just pray; pray the Word. God already gave His Word, to show us everything that He’s given to us, everything that He’s made us, and everything that we can do in Christ Jesus.

Thus, when you pray, until and unless your words are in sync with His divine provisions in Christ, you’ll be praying amiss. He’s revealed to us how to ask; how to pray and what our requests can cover, so you can have faith when you pray to Him. And your faith grows as you learn the Word of God. The more of God’s Word you know, the more faith you’ll have, and the more accurate and effectual your prayers will be. *PRAYER* *Dear Father, I’m lifted by your Word! I’m transfigured and guided by your truth in the path of your divine and perfect will for my life. I walk in strength, health and victory today, because I live by your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen* *FURTHER STUDY* *Psalm 27:1-6*

German start-up trials solar car that can charge as you drive[ Video ]

(The Aug. 7 story corrects to show Sion cannot be charged from other electric cars, removes reference to production taking place at German plants and corrects number of orders to over 6,500)

- A Munich-based start-up has taken advantage of the strong Bavarian sun this summer to test the final development of the charging system of its Sion car, an all-electric solar vehicle that lets you charge as you drive.

Germany will likely miss its target of putting 1 million electric cars on the road by 2020 but the government said in April it was ready to offer support to companies that make batteries for electric vehicles.

Sono Motors, founded in 2016, is developing the Sion, a fully-electric vehicle that has solar cells integrated into its bodywork. It can be charged via solar power or from conventional power outlets.

Production will start in the second half of 2019 and the company has more than 6,500 orders which it aims to start selling at 16,000 euros ($18,540) next year.

Sion will have 330 solar cells attached to the vehicle's roof, bonnet and sides and its battery system will offer a range of around 250 km (155 miles) before it needs recharging.

"We have a seat heater, there is air conditioning, there is a large infotainment system where I can also connect my phone interactively, which means I really have a full vehicle which is very simple, has no frills," Laurin Hahn, co-founder and chief executive.

9-year-old robbed at gunpoint at lemonade stand given hundreds in cash, gifts By Bopha Ph

A 9-year-old boy robbed at gunpoint Saturday while selling lemonade in North Carolina has received more than $200 in direct donations and been given a riding lawnmower.

A 9-year-old boy robbed at gunpoint Saturday while selling lemonade in North Carolina has received more than $200 in direct donations and been given a riding lawnmower.

Local police are still searching for the suspect, who approached the boy and demanded his money -- an amount that turned out to be $17 -- while holding a BB gun, Union County Sheriff's Office spokesman Tony Underwood told ABC News. The suspect was a young black man wearing a cap and a black shirt, Underwood said.

"Unfortunately, we did not find the suspect, but we did find a trail in the woods where we recovered a camo hat," Underwood said, referring to the suspect's camouflage cap. "We recovered the metal tin box that he had the money in along with what turned out to be a BB handgun."

The 9-year-old, whose first name is Mark, was on the phone with his dad when the suspect approached. The father said he and his wife could hear the boy's panicked voice over the phone.

A lemonade stand appears in this undated stock photo.

After news of the theft spread, the Monroe community reached out to support Mark, including the gift of a new mower worth about $1,100, according to the Associated Press. Monroe is about 30 miles southeast of Charlotte.

Lowe's, the home-improvement chain, donated the lawnmower.

"We watched the news over the weekend and heard neighbors were collecting money" to buy Mark a lawnmower, Sarah Lively, a company spokesperson, told ABC News. "We thought that was something Lowe's could help with and contacted our Monroe, North Carolina, store to help surprise Mark on Monday morning."

Underwood said it was the first time he could recall a lemonade stand being held up.

"First time I've ever heard of this," he said, "and I've been in law enforcement for nearly 30 years."

The All New 2019 Bmw M5 Competition Has Emerged From The Woodwork.

In the race to ultimate luxury and superiority, BMW has upped the ante with the latest sedan in it’s M-Series line-up, the 2019 BMW M5 COMPETITION and has gone through great troubles to ensure the new upgrades doesn’t go unnoticed. This new car boasts of extra scoop of power and sportiness to the already highly capable regular M5 model. There’s no doubt that the sharper and slightly quicker 2019 BMW M5 Competition sounds like the car for you, it’ll be landing in showrooms in the month of September.

What’s the cockpit like ?

The new M5 is a seriously impressive piece, with better on-road manners and sharper performance chops than its predecessor. The cabin gets M seatbelts, M5 logo floor mats and the M Competition graphic display on the gauge cluster at start-up.

Like the M5, the intuitive iDrive 6 system handles infotainment duties in the Competition with a 10.2-inch center touchscreen, gesture controls, 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound audio system, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot and an available wireless charging pad. Apple CarPlay capabilities are also included but disappointingly BMW still doesn’t support Android Auto.

Under the hood ?

The twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine gets a small bump from the base M5’s 600 horsepower to 617. The power peak also changes, from 5700 to 6600 rpm in the lesser car to exactly 6000 rpm in the Competition. Maximum torque remains at 553 lb-ft and is available from 1800 rpm all the way until 5860 rpm, an increase of 160 revs at the high end. The result, BMW says, is a zero-to-60-mph time that drops by 0.1 second to 3.1 seconds; however, the regular car hit 60 mph in a shocking 2.8 seconds, so BMW’s time is likely very conservative.

How about the price?

For a beauty like this, it will be wearing an $105,000 (N37.8 M Approx) base price, and I have no doubt many will happily pony up the cash for what’s easily the most capable factory M5 to date. Of course, if you’d prefer better ride comfort and can settle for just 600 horsepower, the base M5 is still a total sweetheart.

Wizkid Buys Benz G Wagon For 3rd Baby Mama As She Flaunts Adorable Photo With Son

Despite strong rumours that Wizkid is a deadbeat father, his small family in the United States of America appear to be in good shape. Wizkid’s baby mama Jada Pollock flaunts her Benz G wagon in new adorable photo with son, Zion.It appears she has been out of town in recent times and just returned to her base, Carlifornia in the U.S. She posed beside her exotic SUV and raised her adorable child up in the photo.

The picture came with a short note; “California how I have missed YOU” Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid remains an unmarried man with three children from three different women. For some reason, Nigerians are addicted to Wizkid and Tania Omotayo’s never-ending love story even after 3 babay mamas. They look to be the best couple of all time but it turned out to be a sour relationship when Wizkid fathered a child with the Guinean US based model.

Wizkid revealed on the ‘Drive-Time With Gbemi’ show on the Beat 99.9 FM, when he was questioned on his relationship with Tania, (where there have been signs that on social media that their love is currently suffering some strain), Wizkid was hesitant.

He kept quiet for some seconds and laughed awkwardly. “My friend is fine. We’re cool, we’re cool. But I’m single now you know. Yeah, I’m single now. But it’s all love. I got love for her. She’s like my best friend anyways.” He replied the question. If success were to be analogous to age then Wizkid has defied that order in all of it’s facets. One could only look at his pace and wonder where he’ll be in the next ten years.

He started quite early at a laughable age many would have despised as a pipe dream but then through talent, hard work and right association he was able to break barriers and set records while a chunk of his age mates are still living off their parents or battling degrees in ivory towers.

Although he has refused to add on his height, his fame and success is taller than the world trade center in New York. His talent accelerated his rise to stardom. It was too conspicuous, you just couldn’t take that out of him.His voice was another propeller, finely tuned by nature, crisp clear and void of vocal impediments.A protege of Banky W who became too big and phenomenal that he had to wave Banky farewell to be on his own.

He has made Nigeria proud for the umpteenth time by winning a plethora of international awards and getting nominations as well.Fame for him, came on time, wasn’t “a day late and a dollar short” just right on time for his puberty.Even the international and continental community felt his impact. He’s signed unto RCA records, an international record label in the United States and has collaborated with top recording artists in the US.

He became the first Afrobeats artist to appeared in the 2018 Guinness World Records for his contribution to Drake’s hit song ” One Dance “.He was ranked 5th on Forbes and Channel O’s 2013 list of the Top 10 Richest/Bankable African Artists and he’s also the first Nigerian to hit 1 million followers on twitter. He’s among Nigeria’s biggest entertainment exports to the world.

His laurels are too bounty and on his recent MOBO awards 2017, he was congratulated by both former and incumbents presidents of Nigeria.Born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun on 16, July 1990 in Surelere, Lagos, Nigeria to a Christian mother and a Muslim father.

Obviously his mother influence was solid as he was actively involved in his church choir. He dropped out of Lagos state university to squarely focus on his zest.He would later go back to schooling in Lead city university and did a Dejavu by dropping out again in his 2nd year.
Clearly, the four walls wasn’t designed for his kind. He was part of the “glorious five” a music group made up of five members of the choir. The group however disbanded, but recorded an album before the split.

In 2009, Wizkid entered into a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment.Under EME, Wizkid began recording his debut studio album, Superstar, in 2009 and in January 2, 2010, he released “Holla at Your Boy ” as the album’s lead single. The song earned him the Next Rated award at The Headies 2011, and was nominated for Best Pop Single at the Headies awards show.Later on he released ” Tease Me/Bad Guys ” and “Don’t Dull” as the album’s second and third singles respectively.

In 2012 he kickoff work on his second album which featured guest appearances from Femi Kuti, Banky W, Seyi Shay, Phyno , Tyga, Akon and Wale.On 2 May 2013, Wizkid released the album’s lead single, ” Jaiye Jaiye “, featuring Femi Kuti . “On Top Your Matter” was released as the album’s second single on 26 October 2013.After the launch of their compilation album Empire Mates State of Mind , EME acts toured the United States and London performing in various cities from July 4 2012 to September 2, 2012.

EME acts performed in several different cities, including Houston, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, New York City, Providence, Calgary, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Chicago. On 2 November 2013, he performed at the Guinness Colorful World of More concert.

This Man Received a Kidney from A Stranger who Saw his Wife’s Plea on Facebook

Amy Pauvlinch & Bill English

This will probably be the most beautiful thing you’ll read today.

A New Jersey man has gotten another chance at life, thanks to a stranger who found out about his case in the comment section of a post last August and tracked him down on Facebook.

Bill English, 35 told People he received the sad news that his kidneys were failing in 2015, and he needed a new one to stay alive. His wife Laura, 35 with whom he has two children aged 4 and 2 with, set up a Facebook page, then called: “Be Our Daddy’s Hero” to ask the public for a donor.

Bill & Laura English and family

Laura told People:

“I was hopeful that it would work. I had to do something. We didn’t have anything to lose. When he first got listed [on the organ transplant registry], he was living life on a machine. To ask somebody to give a piece of themselves to keep him alive was a big ask. I was hopeful, but I didn’t necessarily think a stranger was gonna donate.”

The donor, Amy Pauvlinch, 28 of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, after seeing Laura’s comment on a post about a man who walked around Disney World asking for a kidney donor and eventually found a match, soon found the “Be Our Daddy’s Hero” Facebook page and reached out.

Pauvlinch told People:

“I just knew that this is something that I had to do. Something in my heart was like, ‘This is the person you’re supposed to contact’. I ended up messaging her and I said, ‘I’d really like to give your husband my kidney.’ It was very, very awkward.”

Laura and Pauvlinch spoke for weeks and she later met the family. “I couldn’t even describe the experience. It was pretty surreal. When I first met them, was like, ‘This family’s gonna have my kidney!’ It was amazing… this is the family that I’m supposed to help and come hell or high water we’re gonna do this together. It was like magic,” Pauvlinch said.

After months of testing and preparation, Bill and Pauvlinch went into the operating room at Jefferson University Hospital for the transplant on July 3, 2018. Bill said:

“She was a good match and, once we found that out, our level of hope and excitement grew. Mentally, I was prepared for the worst for years. Then all of a sudden it was happening. I didn’t know how to take it. I was too amazed. It hit me, like, ‘Oh my God! this is happening.’”

Both of them are recovering fine, and according to People, they felt “great” after the surgery.

“It’s amazing. I feel like a whole new person. I felt good right away. Once I was out of the anesthesia, I was in the best mood I’ve been in in like three years,” Bill said.

“It’s so awesome and surreal, still, to know my kidney is in his body kicking so much ass for him!!” Pauvlinch wrote in an Instagram post earlier in July.

Bill & Laura English

Laura shared an emotional post on Bill’s journey on Facebook following the success of the procedure. She wrote:

I held my breath when the doctor said you needed to start dialysis…

I held my breath when you commuted an hour to work everyday & then spent 3 nights a week on a machine…

I held my breath when you spent 10 days in the hospital for sepsis in your dialysis perma-catheter…

I held my breath when you lost your job because the effects of kidney disease and dialysis caught up to you, making it difficult to work…

I held my breath watching you experience side effects from living on a machine (migraines, nausea, exhaustion)…

I held my breath every time someone sent a message to me through the kidney page, wondering if they would be the one…

I held my breath for the CALL…

And the CALL finally came and we found your angel kidney!

Tuesday, I breathed a sigh of relief when I spoke with the surgeon and you successfully received the GIFT OF LIFE and a functioning kidney!

Today, I EXHALED, as you came home from the hospital with a new lease on life and new possibilities. We know this gift may not last forever and there will be bumps in the road, but tonight I EXHALE.

If nothing else, this journey has taught us just how fragile life is and at any moment it can change. We continue to be cautiously optimistic and make plans for the future filled with hope and good health. We thank Bill’s hero for this gift and the ability to imagine endless possibilities for our family. ❤️🙏🙌💚
