Former Senate President, Senator David Mark and top national leaders of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have started making moves to reconcile aggrieved members of the party in Osun state ahead of the September 22nd governorship election in the state.
The move became necessary so that those aggrieved over the primary election of the party would embrace and work for the candidate of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke to win the election.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi confirmed the development.
Odeyemi said the PDP primary stands and that Senator Ademola Adeleke remains the candidate of the party.
The PDP spokesman said Senator Mark’s peace and reconciliation team will bring all members of the party together to work for Adeleke for the victory of the party.
Daily Trust correspondent gathered that the move has started yielding positive results as there were fruitful talks among the concerned PDP leaders and stakeholders.
A reliable source said "Top PDP leaders from Osun including Dr Olu Alabi, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, Chief Fadahunsi and Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa are meeting some PDP national leaders in Abuja on the way forward.
"The misunderstandings have been ironed out and they have agreed to join hands with Senator Adeleke and also prevail on Dr Akin Ogunbiyi to work for the party to achieve victory in this September election.
"There will be a peace meeting on Monday which will be chaired by Senator David Mark. Dr Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of Senator Ademola Adeleke is involved in this peace move to a large extent. The meeting is expected to bring PDP members together for the September election in Osun."
Confirming this development, a PDP chieftain from Ogunbiyi's camp said "w e have to resolve issues so that we can face the election. September 22nd is not far away and we have to come together to send APC back to Lagos because our people in Osun are suffering too much under Aregbesola's administration."
Another PDP leader said "we are making progress, the spirit of dying pensioners and the suffering masses of Osun shall ensure victory for PDP and deliverance for the good people of Osun. Let us therefore focus on sharing positive messages of peace in response to the detractors".
