Zamfara to rehabilitate villages destroyed by bandits

Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, has announced the state government plans to immediately rehabilitate villages recently destroyed by bandits in Zurmi local government area of the state.

18 villages in the three districts of Kwashabawa, Birane and Mashema were attacked by bandits last week where scores of people were killed.

Following the attacks, over 12,000 villagers from the affected areas deserted their homes and are now being camped in schools, hospitals and offices in Zurmi, the local government headquarters.

The speakerm who made the announcement at a press briefing in Gusau on Sunday, described the Zurmi attack as the worst in the state since 2012.

“As we are talking now, these districts are no longer under government but bandits control and we are mobilizing with security personnel to go and flush them out,” Rikiji said.

He said while efforts were being made to rebuild the affected villages, the communities would remain at the local government headquarters where they would be catered for.

”At this moment, even if they go back to their villages, there will be no food or shelter for them because the bandits have burned down most of the houses along with foodstuff and animals, ” he said.

“We are also going to bring doctors so that the victims will be treated out of the trauma they went through especially the women and children,” the speaker further said.

He said, at the moment, both the state and the national emergency agencies were providing services to the victims.

Rik ii said the IDPs would remain in place until the arrival of a federal government delegation which he said was being expected for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

He said another camp in Shinkafi was holding 7,500 IDPs persons.

FG directs Kwara APC members in govt’s appointment to resign or risk being sack

The federal government has directed all members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state in the camp of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, holding various federal government appointments to resign immediately or risked being sacked.

Recall that six members of House of Representatives from Kwara state were among those who dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the week.

The minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, gave the directive at a press conference in his country home, Oro, in Irepodun local government area of Kwara state on Sunday.

He also expressed the intention of the federal government to dissolve the Senator Bukola Saraki-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state under the chairmanship of Alh Ishola Balogun Fulani earlier adopted by the national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole and conduct another congress.

The minister said the new development was as a result of the wide consultations with all the stakeholders in the state since Friday, which climaxed yesterday.

Mohammed explained that there would be another congress from the ward, till the state that would produce another leadership in the state, saying that pending that time, Alh Bashir Bolarinwa's leadership would hold sway in the state.

He stressed that it is unacceptable that members of the party who refused to desert the party would not benefit from the government, while those who have decamped to other political parties would still hold on to the political appointment of a party they have dumped.

He therefore warned that if they fail to resign from the appointments as directed, the federal government would sack all of them unannounced.

The minister, who said that the consultation's that led to the directives in Kwara state was with the knowledge of the national chairman of the ruling party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, urged members of the party in the state to remain calm.

He however noted that the door of the party is widely opened to members who are willing to return to the party.

The minister also exuded confidence that the ruling APC would win the gubernatorial election in the state in 2019 election, adding that the electorates will also vote overwhelmingly for the re-election of President Muhammad Buhari and his vice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

He added that the resolution of the party would be made known to the national leadership of the party, who would also decide the date of new convention for the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

According to him, "For six members of House of Representatives to decamp from All Progressives Congress in Kwara state, to other political parties, we don't need a rocket science to know, that all of them are no longer with us.

"They cannot continue to enjoy the political appointment of a party they have dumped, while those who are our genuine members, still in the party don't have such benefits."

David Mark leads PDP leaders to reconcile Osun PDP on Adeleke candidature

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark and top national leaders of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have started making moves to reconcile aggrieved members of the party in Osun state ahead of the September 22nd governorship election in the state.

The move became necessary so that those aggrieved over the primary election of the party would embrace and work for the candidate of the party, Senator Ademola Adeleke to win the election.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi confirmed the development.

Odeyemi said the PDP primary stands and that Senator Ademola Adeleke remains the candidate of the party.

The PDP spokesman said Senator Mark’s peace and reconciliation team will bring all members of the party together to work for Adeleke for the victory of the party.

Daily Trust correspondent gathered that the move has started yielding positive results as there were fruitful talks among the concerned PDP leaders and stakeholders.

A reliable source said "Top PDP leaders from Osun including Dr Olu Alabi, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, Chief Fadahunsi and Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa are meeting some PDP national leaders in Abuja on the way forward.

"The misunderstandings have been ironed out and they have agreed to join hands with Senator Adeleke and also prevail on Dr Akin Ogunbiyi to work for the party to achieve victory in this September election.

"There will be a peace meeting on Monday which will be chaired by Senator David Mark. Dr Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of Senator Ademola Adeleke is involved in this peace move to a large extent. The meeting is expected to bring PDP members together for the September election in Osun."

Confirming this development, a PDP chieftain from Ogunbiyi's camp said "w e have to resolve issues so that we can face the election. September 22nd is not far away and we have to come together to send APC back to Lagos because our people in Osun are suffering too much under Aregbesola's administration."

Another PDP leader said "we are making progress, the spirit of dying pensioners and the suffering masses of Osun shall ensure victory for PDP and deliverance for the good people of Osun. Let us therefore focus on sharing positive messages of peace in response to the detractors".

''He is a careless talker suffering from diarrhoea of the mouth'' Saraki attacks Governor El-Rufai

Senate President Bukola Saraki has reacted to the comment made by Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that he leads the worst senate house Nigeria has ever had. Read below.

In an interview with Punch, Saraki who spoke via his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said El-Rufai is a careless talker who is suffering from diarrhea of the mouth.

''El-Rufai is a known careless talker. He is a man suffering from diarrhoea of the mouth. You (one of our correspondents) report the National Assembly on a daily basis. Is it possible for the name of a senator to be announced as having defected without him or her signing the letter communicating same to the Senate President?”

“We challenge el-Rufai to mention the name of any senator whose name was announced without his or her consent. He (el-Rufai) is a divisive element, an expert hero worshipper and noisemaker.”

“He worshipped (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo once the way he is now worshipping (President Muhammadu) Buhari, and now he is on the forefront of abusing the former President. It will soon be the turn of Buhari to be rubbished by el-Rufai. He did the same to ex-Vice President Atiku (Abubakar).” he told Punch

No semen found in woman who accused Charlamagne tha God of rape when she was a minor

A woman accused radio jock, Charlamagne tha God of getting her drunk and raping her when she was a minor. But it has now been revealed that she had no semen evidence in her body or on her clothing when a rape kit was tested.

In documents obtained by The Blast, there was no evidence of semen found in oral, vaginal or rectal swabs in Jessica Reid’s rape kit.

The lack of semen evidence doesn't exactly prove that Jessica wasn't raped. It probably means Charlamagne wore a condom when he had sex with the then 15-year-old victim.

The 40-year-old radio jock was arrested on July 2, 2001 and charged with “willfully, unlawfully, and feloniously engage in penile/vaginal intercourse with a fifteen-year-old female child.”

Jessica's mother, Joslyn, refused to allow the 15-year-old to cooperate with investigators and the case was closed after Charlamagne took a plea deal.

In podcasts and on the radio shows, Charlamagne, the "Breakfast Club" host, has repeatedly laughed and joked about drugging and having sex with incoherent women over the years.

3 Months Old Baby Dies In Hot Car After His Mother Forgot He Was There.

A three-month-old baby has died after being left in a hot car when his mother forgot to drop him off at nursery. Aiden Miller’s father Aaron revealed

A three-month-old baby has died after being left in a hot car when his mother forgot to drop him off at nursery.

Aiden Miller’s father Aaron revealed that the boy’s mother only realised something was amiss when she finished her shift and wanted to enter her car but could smell his body.

He told Wave TV: ‘She said she opened the car door and was like “what is that smell?” and she noticed Aiden was still in the back seat.’

Police said emergency personnel received a call seeking medical aid for an unresponsive infant outside a business. They are now investigating the death.

Aiden was pronounced dead at a hospital in the city just north of Louisville, Kentucky. Mr Turner said the child’s mother was supposed to drop their two children off at different daycare centres.

The mother dropped her daughter off, but Aiden remained in the car’s back seat in the car park outside her workplace.

He added: “I still don’t understand how that happened. Obviously it happens. It just happened in my family. It doesn’t get any closer to home than this.

“Keep in mind that that baby is the number one priority. It is inexcusable for any kid to have to go through and for parents to have to lose a child like this.”

Popular Nigerian actress, Chika Ike has said she works hard because she grew up with nothing, also revealing that she she once battled with low self-esteem and hopelessness.

According to Punch Nigeria, Chika Ike while revealing the circumstances behind her birth and upbringing in a press conference, Ike said she came from a poor background.

She said; “I didn’t have a good relationship with my father growing up because he wanted a male child. Those made me understand as a child that you have to fight for yourself because it is about you alone at the end of the day.

“People think I like money, the fear of failing makes me work hard. I always push myself to succeed and be the person everyone doubted me to be.

When I was little, people would ask me what gave me the impression I could become successful in life. I once struggled to pay my rent and I have been turned down by people many times.

I didn’t get here because I am beautiful or an actress; I kept pushing myself. I do things that you will never think I can do; nobody thought I would be given an admission at the prestigious Harvard Business School.”

She also said she was aware that everyone had a limited time to spend on earth, saying she had decided to live like there was no tomorrow. She added;

“I have been through a lot in my life; I have my ups and downs. I try to have a good life because life is too short. I lost my mother when she was still very young, which made me realise that we cannot live as long as we want. You don’t even know what can happen tomorrow; so, you have to embrace every moment.”

A former Ukrainian soldier was filmed setting himself on fire in protest after he was sacked from the army.

Dramatic footage broadcast on Ukrainian television showed Serhii Ulianov dousing himself in petrol before setting his army uniform alight.

Flames covered him head to toe in seconds in the shocking protest outside the Ukrainian Defence Ministry headquarters in Kiev.

As witnesses were pulled away from desperately trying to jump in, another soldier managed to pull Ulianov to the ground to pat out the flames.

Firefighters and other militiary officials jumped in to cover the ex-soldier, spraying him with a fire extinguisher.

According to reports in the country, servicemen were made aware of Ulianov’s plans and had managed to restrain him from his attempted self-immolation.

But Ulianov managed to break free and ignite himself in seconds. One picture shows him hurling away a water bottle filled with clear liquid – believed to be the gasoline he used.
