Nigerian Men Sit Down On The Road To Drink Beer After Surviving Accident [ See Photos ]

A group of men sat down to crack a few cold beers after surviving a potentially fatal accident in Imo state, Nigeria

The incident took place today near Enerco Construction company in Okigwe area of Imo state.

There were no casualties.

According to reports, the truck suffered from brake failure and eventually fell into the river, but the driver and his conductor were able to make it out alive.

Thankful that they made it out alive, the men decided to sit in the middle of the deserted road and have some beer to calm the nerves and celebrate their spared lives.

Soon enough, more and more people joined in the celebration.

Not every story has a happy ending such as that as only a few days ago, a man was killed along with 13 members of his family as he went to attend his own wedding in Vietnam.

Vietnam is fraught with road accidents and is the biggest single cause of deaths.

This is due mostly to people hardly following traffic laws and road infrastructure is patchy, despite efforts to make the roads safer.

The WHO claims that about 14,000 lives are lost in road accidents in Vietnam every year.

PDP Hosts Newly Decamped APC Member's To A Dinner [ Photos ]

A military regime is better than this government- Secondus

Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says a military government is better than the current administration.

Speaking on Wednesday at a dinner to welcome those who left the All Progressives Congress (APC), Secondus alleged that the ruling party has foisted on the country “a kind of military democracy”.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and Aminu Tambuwal, governor of Sokoto, are the latest notable politicians to defect to the PDP.

Last week, some members of the national assembly dumped the APC for the PDP.

Secondus said those who left APC could not watch the country slide into crisis.

“They can not watch the country sliding into crisis as we have found ourselves today – bloodletting, killings unabated. Government of denial, government of frame-up, government of intimidation and harassment, a government that believe in the feast of arms,” Secondus said.

“I thought that one of the critical elements of democracy is lobbying and persuasion is the greatest weapon of a democrat or a politician.

We have seen in the past few years that the APC-led government have foisted on this nation a kind of military democracy that cannot be described.

It is better for us to have full blown military.

“The institutions that are supposed to maintain law and order, like the one we have witnessed as in the case of Ekiti and in the case of Benue charged with the maintenance of law and order are the same people who are breaking this law and order.

No rule of law, court orders are not obeyed we are getting deeper and deeper into crisis.

“These heroes of democracy who have decided to move from the ruling party, very unusual to stand with the people, not only PDP, they are standing with the majority of Nigerians.

The need to honour them, they are the heros of democracy. Their decision was in the defence of democracy.”

The chairman said there was no longer freedom in the country.

“It is a long work to freedom. There is no longer in Nigeria. If you tell them the truth they will tell you that it is hate speech,” he said.

“Tell them the honest truth they will say it is fake news.”

Zimbabwe Election Result Announced As Ruling Zanu - PF Wins Majority In First Poll Since Robert Mugabe

Robert Mugabe's reign ended its last chapter today as Zanu-PF, his old party, won a majority in Zimbabwe's elections - without him

It sets the stage for Mugabe's nemesis, Emmerson 'Crocodile' Mnangagwa, to claim victory and remain President

Robert Mugabe's reign ended its last chapter today as his old party won a majority in Zimbabwe's elections - without him.

Mugabe ruled the nation with an iron fist for 37 years before he finally quit in a bloodless coup in November.

Speaking this week, the frail 94-year-old said he couldn't back ruling party Zanu-PF claiming: "I cannot vote for those who have tormented me."

But today Zimbabwe's Electoral Commission said Zanu-PF were cruising to a big majority after picking up 109 seats - compared to just 41 for the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

That sets the stage for Mugabe's nemesis, Emmerson 'Crocodile' Mnangagwa, to claim victory and remain President.

Voters in Zimbabwe pick a presidential candidate based on their party affiliation.

And the trend in the parliamentary election was expected to continue when results for he president are announced this week.

The House of Assembly of Parliament has 210 seats. Another 58 seats were yet to be declared in latest results reported by Reuters on Wednesday morning.

Zanu-PF would need to win 30 more to have a two-thirds majority that would allow it to change the constitution at will.

The opposition MDC, led by Nelson Chamisa, won in most urban centres, where it enjoys majority support.

And the MDC accused the election commission of deliberately delaying results of the vote to favour the ruling party.

The opposition claimed there were irregularities in the first poll since the removal of Mugabe in a bloodless coup.

Former MDC finance minister Tendai Biti blasted the situation as an “interference with the people’s will”.

Even though the election passed off peacefully, several water cannon trucks patrolled outside the central Harare headquarters of the MDC as its red-shirted supporters danced in the streets.

Update!! Saraki Reveals Why He Dumped APC FOR PDP... His Reason Will Shock You [ See Post Below ]

Senate Presient, Bukola Saraki has revealed why he is dumping the ruling party, APC for the opposition PDP

In a lengthy write up on Twitter, he wrote;

“All entreaties for justice, equity and fairness as basic precondition for peace and unity, not only within the party, but also the country at large, were simply ignored, or employed as additional pretext for further exclusion.

The experience of my people and associates in the past three years is that they have suffered alienation and have been treated as outsiders in their own party. Thus, many have become disaffected and disenchanted.

At the same time, opportunities to seek redress and correct these anomalies were deliberately blocked as a government-within-a-government had formed an impregnable wall and left in the cold, everyone else who was not recognized as “one of us”.

This is why my people, like all self-respecting people would do, decided to seek accommodation elsewhere.

I have had the privilege to lead the Nigerian legislature in the past three years as the President of the Senate and the Chairman of the National Assembly”.

The emergence of a new national party executives a few weeks ago held out some hopes, however slender.

The new party chairman has swung into action and did his best alongside some of the Governors of APC and His Excellency, the Vice President. I thank them for all their great efforts to save the day and achieve reconciliation.

Even though I thought these efforts were coming late in the day, but seeing the genuine commitment of these gentlemen, I began to think that perhaps it was still possible to reconsider the situation.

However, as I have realized all along, there are some others in the party leadership hierarchy, who did not think dialogue was the way forward and therefore chose to play the fifth columnists.

For me, I leave all that behind me. Today, I start as I return to the party where I began my political journey, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

When we left the PDP to join the then nascent coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2014, we left in a quest for justice, equity and inclusion; the fundamental principles on which the PDP was originally built but which it had deviated from.

We were attracted to the APC by its promise of change. We fought hard along with others and defeated the PDP. In retrospect, it is now evident that the PDP has learnt more from its defeat than the APC has learnt from its victory.

The PDP that we return to is now a party that has learnt its lessons the hard way and have realized that no member of the party should be taken for granted; a party that has realized that inclusion, justice and equity are basic precondition for peace…”
