Beyoncé Reportedly hires First Ever Black Photographer to Shoot a Vogue Cover for her September Feature

Singer/songwriter Beyoncé who is the cover of Vogue magazine’s upcoming September issue has been given unprecedented control over the cover by the editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour.
And with that control Queen Beyonce did something way more iconic than her Lemonade album by hiring the first black photographer to shoot a cover in Vogue’s 126-year history.

According to Huffington Post, Vogue is contractually obligated to give Beyoncé full control over the cover, the photos of her inside the magazine and the captions, which Beyoncé has written herself and are in long-form, according to two sources who are familiar with the agreement between Vogueand Beyoncé.

Beyoncé chose Tyler Mitchell ,a 23-year old photographer from Atlanta. The young photographer has shot covers for Fader and Office Magazine, directed film projects for clients such as Marc Jacobs and Ray-Ban.

He also photographed the Parkland shooting survivors for Teen Vogue’s ‘March for Our Lives feature’.

In an interview with The New York Times, he said “I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way, there is an honest gaze to my photos.”

Governor Ortom Speaks Amid Impeachment Saga,Explains Why Notice Is Null, Void

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has reacted to the report of the impeachment notice served him by eight meembers of the State’s House of Assembly on Monday.

Crisis in the State House of Assembly took a new turn on Monday as eight lawmakers served an impeachment notice on the governor.

The lawmakers, Adanyi Benjamin, Terhemba Chabo, Benjamin Nungwa, Bem Mngutyo, Adams Okloho, James Okefe and Nick Eworo were among members that moved for the governor’s impeachment.

The plot was coordinated by Terkimbi Ikyange who was removed as speaker of the Assembly last week.

Speaking to DAILY POST on the development through his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, Ortom said he was still the governor of the State, adding that the lawmakers lack the constitutional powers to remove him from office.

He said, “Ortom is still the Chief Executive of the State. You can’t just impeach a Governor in a flash. You have to go through all the legal and constitutional processes.

“They have not been able to form a quorum, so it is not possible. Only eight people served the governor the notice, even at that, 2 other members who were part of the cangaroo sitting were on the side of the governor, so how can anybody call that an impeachment notice. It’s laughable and must be ignored completely.

“And for the record, there is a court injunction restricting the impeached Speaker from parading himself as the Speaker of the House and that court injunction has not been vacated.

“He has been suspended for 6 months, he doesn’t have any constitutional right to go back to that Assembly.

“He has done nothing to vacate that injunction so whatever he did stands null and void.”

People all across Zimbabwe will on Monday proceed to voting centres to cast their votes in the first elections since the ousting of Robert Mugabe.

94-year-old Mugabe was ousted in November 2017 after ruling the country for 37 years.

His former Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa, who took over his role, is running in Monday’s polls against opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change).

75-year-old Mnangagwa is running on the ZANU-PF platform, under which Mugabe ruled the country.

Punch reports that Mugabe has hinted he’ll be voting for the opposition, saying: “I cannot vote for those who tormented me.”

28-year-old Tawanda Petru, who spoke to the media, said:

I just have to do this. I have to see a better Zimbabwe for my kids. Things have been tough.

I’m going to vote for Chamisa, for change. I am not afraid, I can tell you.

‘The men in my family rarely live over 80 so I’d be surprised if I had another ten years. I could die tomorrow.’

Dino Melaye denies Planning Abduction to miss Court Appearance, narrates Experience

Senator Dino Melaye has denied making up the incident of his recent abduction in order to avoid his court appearance. He made this revelation in an interview with Premium Timeswhere he refuted the claims, describing them as “illogical”. He added that the claims should “ring false to the lucid mind” especially as he was in court the day before.

To begin with, the federal government and the police in particular have combined five cases against me in court. I have never declined to appear in court for trial in all the five separate cases.

Dino further revealed that the court case was quite symbolic as the prosecuting lawyer, Alex Izinyon had sought adjournment which made it unlikely for the case to hold on Thursday.

I have been attending all previous court hearings. I have been told that the prosecutor wanted an adjournment. I have been granted bail long ago which I continue to enjoy. So why would I not want to go to court that day? There is no sense in that claim. It is completely against logic,” Melaye said.

Melaye also gave details of his experience originally reported by Senator Ben Murray Bruce as “abduction”. He shared while admitting that some assailants ambushed his bullet proof on Gwagwalada road:

“I was going in a totally different vehicle, but I asked my brother to drive behind me in an SUV as a back-up,” he said. “But I was shocked to see the attackers run into the middle, creating wall between my brother and I before attacking me.”

Upon discovery that the car was bullet proof, they threatened to set him ablaze, the senator said.

Dino went on to reveal how the fear for his life made him run into a nearby bush and climb a tree to get away from his attackers. He also shared that he spent 11 hours on the tree to ensure he was no longer at risk.

On who he suspects might be behind the recent threat to his life, Melaye shared that his attackers were police elements, adding that he noticed some men trailing him after his court appearance on Wednesday in the same Toyota Hilux truck and a Toyota Sienna minivan used by his Thursday assailants.

Melaye aslo told The Cable about his experience. He said:

When I realised that they wanted to burn my vehicle, I quickly opened the car and ran into the bush. I had to run for my life. It was the grace of God that made me to escape. When I got into the bush, I climbed a tree and stayed there. While on the tree, I saw two of the policemen coming to look for me but they didn’t know I was on the tree. I was in the bush for 11 hours.

My brother that was in one of the vehicles didn’t know what happened. So, he had to raise an alarm that I was kidnapped. He went to the Gwagwalada police station and reported the matter. At first, they wanted to act, but when one of them made a call, they started tossing my brother up and down.

They then asked him to go and wait for them at the scene, that they would join him. But he waited for more than 45 minutes, they didn’t come. So, it’s not true for the police to say that none of my family members reported the matter.

If anything happens to me, the Nigerian police and (Kogi state) Yahaya Bello should be held responsible.

I went through four assassination attempts as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but the president remained silent. Definitely, I’m going to call the attention of the international community.

They withdrew my security since April 22, and I wrote the police to restore my security, but nothing was done. As a senator, I deserve security personnel around me. In fact, even as an ordinary citizen, I deserve security.
